Teen Dentistry

For teens and tweens, the permanent (adult) set of teeth are present. Taking care of permanent teeth at this stage in overall development can be a challenge for parents. We will encourage a positive attitude about oral health care with your child. We understand that for parents, it can be a balance between fostering independence and avoiding an emotional battle of wills. At this age, we encourage you to let your child go into the treatment room alone. This independence allows children to focus on instructions given by our dental team and feel in charge.

Teens and tweens have other concerns about their smiles. Orthodontic needs, teeth grinding, clenching of the jaw, aesthetic treatments, teeth bleaching, oral piercings and the dangers of tobacco are just a few issues that we can address with teens and tweens.

Visiting the dentist may not be the number one priority for teenagers. However, it is vital for teens to brush, floss and maintain regular dental appointments. Teens actually have a higher rate of cavities due to frequent snacking, busy schedules and typically poorer nutrition in comparison to other children. As you are aware, teeth need to last a lifetime!
